Frequently asked questions
Want to know more about our school?

Enrollment? Snacks? Allergies? Transistions? Check out some of our most frequently asked questions below!

  • What's the best way to contact your school?

We'd love to hear from you. Please call us at (412) 362-2500, or email at brightlightacademychildcare@gmail.com. You can also fill out a Contact Us form on our contact page.

  • Where are you located?

We are proudly located in Shadyside at the corner of Kentucky Avenue and Negley Avenue. We do not have other facilities.

  • Do you offer tours?

Our school does offer tours, but we only schedule them with families we are certain we can offer enrollment to. If we offer your family a spot for enrollment and a tour, you do not have to accept before taking the tour. Tours are during school hours, before or after naptime (1pm to 3pm). We discourage scheduling tours outside of school hours, but we encourage bringing your child along to meet some of their potential teachers :)

  • What is your availability like?

For specific details about our availabilty, please visit the Availability page of our website! Our level of care is in quite high demand, and frequently we are at full capacity. However, families are always welcome to join or inquire about our waitlist.

  • Can you tell me more about your waitlist?

Each of our five classrooms has their own waitlist and wait times. We reach out to families as spots become available, and select based on how long they have been waiting for care and the full or part-time needs of that family. We also periodically send out email to check if families have found another provider to ensure that others are not waiting to hear back forever.

  • what does part-time mean?

At our school, we offer two options for families who need part-time care: Mondays, Wednesdays, & Fridays OR Tuesdays & Thursdays. This allows us to provide care for the most amount of families possible and keep our school safe.

  • What are your student illness policies?

We are very concerned with maintaining the health and safety of our community. All students and parents must check their temperatures upon entering the school. Students who develop fevers, rashes, or gastrointestinal problems throughout the day are sent home. When a student contracts a highly communicable disease, an email and a message on Brightwheel is sent out to all families. This message will include what disease has been diagnosed, what classroom(s) have been affected, and what symptoms to look for. Health alerts will NEVER list the infected child's name.

  • What happens when my child transitions to another classroom?

Transitions are an exciting time at school & a fun experience for students and teachers! As your child ages into the next classroom, they will begin having visiting time with their new teachers & play time with their old friends. We'll work together with you, the parents, to move your child to the next classroom as it is developmentally safe for them & they feel comfortable in their new environment.

  • my child has a food allergy--how do you accommodate for this?

At Bright Light Academy, we do provide morning and afternoon snack to all our students. Occassionally, this snack may include an allergen like nuts, seeds, milk, or something less common your child may have. Each classroom has one allergen-free table, regardless of the allergies in that room, meaning no nuts/seeds/etc are ever to be eaten at that table.

Additionally, each classroom has a list of all allergies had by students in the school. This list is updated regularly as students enroll and change classrooms so that all teachers know who to keep in mind come snack time, for many of our teachers often cover mulitple classes. This allergen list also includes all medication allergies, just to be safe.

In the case of a deathly severe allergy, we would do our best to eliminate the allergen from that student's classroom completely.

  • I've seen pictures of your playground, what is outside time like?

Our children get at least thirty minutes of outside time depending on certain factors. As long as it is not actively raining or snowing, and the "real feel" is above 32 but below 90, students will play outside. In the seasons with more sunlight, students will get to play outside twice, once before lunch and once at the end of the day. During the warmer and brighter months, pick-up for older children usually takes place outside.

  • Do you take families that use CCIS?

Yes! Our school is happy to enroll all students & collaborate with all families.

  • What forms of payment do you accept?

Most of our families use our online billing option, but can also take in-school payments via credit card, debit card, or check.
